Alcampo will not close supermarkets in Aragon but will readjust templates

Jun 13, 2025

The Alcampo supermarket chain has put an end to the open negotiation process last May and has agreed with the unions a template adjustment plan that will affect, at most, 633 of the more than 27,000 workers that the French company has throughout the country. Specifically in Aragon, although no supermarket will be closed, some centers will be affected by the reduction of personnel, a measure that reaches a total of 127 establishments of the company in eleven autonomous communities.

“Enough already”: Alcampo workers call citizens to concentrate on Zaragoza this Thursday

This has been confirmed by Alcampo herself this Friday through an official statement in which she has specified that the adjustment includes “the separation of 404 workers in hypermarkets and supermarkets that will remain open” and the final closure of 16 supermarkets in the regions of Madrid, Castilla y León, Galicia, Navarra and the Basque Country.

Open supermarket settings

The layoffs agreed in the negotiation with the unions (fetic, Ccoo and UGT) will be produced in operating centers located in communities such as Andalusia, Community of Madrid, Castilla-La Mancha, Valencian Community, Aragon, Asturias, Cantabria, Castilla y León, Galicia, Navarra and La Rioja.

In these establishments, the template reduction will affect 404 people, while another 196 will be affected by the closure of 16 stores in several Spanish autonomous communities. Alcampo will offer, however, “35 alternative structural positions” and a “relocation plan” up to 18 months.

Zaragoza, among the cities that will “transform” their stores

As a measure to avoid closures and reduce layoffs, Alcampo will transform five supermarkets into León, Palencia, Salamanca, Saragossa and Santander, which will keep a total of 62 jobs as the Gala company itself has been able to specify. This figure could be extended in another 33 people if the conversion of three additional stores in Burgos, Valladolid and Lugo prosper.

In parallel, economic compensation for people who accept these new positions with reduction of working hours, worth up to 3,000 euros. In the case of compensation for dismissal, a 35 -day base per year has been set and up to 20 monthly payments. For people over 63, 20 days per year worked and a maximum of 12 monthly payments.

A key date: November 30

The period planned to carry out this readjustment will be extended until November 30, with a monitoring commission that will include both union representatives and the management of the company.

Within the framework of the agreement, certain groups such as those workers with disabilities equal to or greater than 33%, victims of gender violence or other vulnerable groups that cannot be included in the dismissals have also been protected except in case of being assigned to stores affected by closing.

The company ensures that with this agreement the impact initially foreseen is reduced by 11% and that, if all measures are applied, the total outputs could be reduced by 20% compared to the initial figure.
