Dominican handball is already one of the four best in Spain and will be measured to Barça

Jun 13, 2025

Second competition day for the Male Dominican Handball Cadet Zaragoza on its journey through the final phase of the championship of Spain and second victory. After starting the tournament yesterday with a lazy 43-31 in front of the Guadalquivir Ars Palma del Río Ars, today he has done the same against the Galicians of the Baratto Luceros pizzeria, in a very hard match that has been closed with 35-27 on the scoreboard, although the first part did not presage those eight goals of difference in the end.

The physical demand of a tournament with this format, together with the heat reigning in the Aragonese capital, have been determining factors so that neither of the two contestants has been able to break the game until the second part. It has already been in 35, shortly after passing through the changing rooms, when Dominicans, thanks to a remarkably more intense defensive attitude, has managed to start decanting the balance.

The dead time requested by the Pizzería Baratto Luceros coach just at that time was the clear confirmation that the match lived clear point of inflection. From that moment, Dominicans remained in a comfortable rent of seven goals practically until the end, when the fatigue (and the local success) ended up leaving the final result in +8.

“It has been a very hard game. It has cost us to enter the beginning of the first part and have defensively surpassed us in one, suffering a lot in the central zone. In the second we have left much harder in defense, although we have noticed the downturn of the rotations and it has cost to maintain the level. In the end, the game has been what we wanted: a victory with our people,” said Carlos Colomer, Dominican Handball

Now the giants touch: Barça crosses the way to the medals

After gaining the right to say that they are already one of the four best teams in Spain, Colomer himself points out the remaining path. “We have a lot of illusion and eager. Tomorrow we are going to give everything against Barça.” And they will have to do it, because to close the group stage and determine their rival in the semifinals, Dominicans have to see the faces with Barça Cadet B.

But we must not be fooled by that “B” of the name: it is a team that has won in the regular league to Barça Cadet A, which is also playing in Saragossa For a position in the final.

So now, almost all likely, and after achieving the crushing to get among the four best, Dominicos’ dreams will bend, nothing less, that the two teams of Barça, who dominate the category at the national level with iron and have a templates that give authentic fear.
