Flooded municipalities ask for help: “We are completely abandoned”
The residents of the municipalities affected by the floods Last Friday they have been working tirelessly for two days to clean and take mud from their homes, public facilities or roads that obstruct the entrance and exit of the localities. Without water or electric supply, they request urgent help to collaborate with cleaning tasks and denounce “a complete abandonment of institutions.”
“Between yesterday and today we will have taken 200 clay trucks and help only from the Firefighters of the DPZ, Red Cross and the neighbors. On the part of the Government, nothing at all,” says Joaquín Alconchel, mayor of Azuara. Yes, there is a response from the Health Manager, Ana Castillo, who has approached the municipality to know firsthand the rough state in which the health center is located. “We are going to move to another municipal agency to have an operational health center, until they decide what we do,” said Alco.
It is the neighbors of the localities who carry out cleaning work, take mud from houses and streets. “There were children of all ages helping, making a human chain to get all the materials to throw, sweeping and filling with mud,” said a neighbor of Herrera de los Navarros to Aragonpress. This town sees an end to all this, while others confirm that it will be a job of months.
“No one has appeared here. We are completely abandoned,” said Rafael Beltrán, councilor of Villar de los Navarros. “It is the volunteer neighbors who are working tirelessly.” All testimonies confirm the lack of help from the Aragon government and the urgent request for help.
Beltrán confirms that “the Firefighters of the DPZ have brought a truck with 2,000 liters of water”, while continued: “No one has come to open the roads, and we are asking to restore the supply of water to private companies.” “This is shameful,” said the councilor.
