More than 2,700 minors access early care services in the three Aragonese provinces

Jun 16, 2025

A total of 2,721 minors currently access early care services in the three Aragonese provinces, according to the data updated on April 30, 2025. This represents an increase of 4.74% compared to August 31, 2024, when the figure was 2,598. From August 2023 to date, more than 400 boys and girls have been incorporated into the system.

Early Attention Day is commemorated every June 16, a day that seeks to make visible the importance of detecting and accompanying boys and girls with problems in their development during early childhood. On the occasion of this celebration, the Minister of Social Welfare and Family of the Government of Aragon, Carmen Susín, has participated in the acts organized by the Aragonese Association of Early Care Professionals (Asarat), chaired by José Luis Peña. The event has also attended families, social and professional entities in the sector.

The event took place this Monday morning in the Parque Grande, next to the Rincón de Goya, and included the planting of a tree, the placement of a commemorative plaque and the reading of the national and Aragonese manifesto on the occasion of this event. During his speech, Susin stressed: “We are aware that we must continue to advance in the improvement of the early care service, because any child in need of support needs to receive them in the least possible term,” and has reaffirmed the commitment of the Aragon government to reduce both the list of waiting for valuations and access to a place within the system.

The counselor has also confirmed the approval of a reinforcement of the early care assessment equipment, with an investment of 340,000 euros aimed at implementing a temporary program funded by the IASS that will be in force until 2026. This reinforcement will mean the hiring of four new professionals who will exercise in the provinces of Huesca and Saragossa, where there is a greater demand, with the aim of reducing valuation waiting lists. As explained, this reinforcement will come into operation this summer.

In addition, he pointed out that the department is already working on the modification and update of the early care order, in force since 2003, with the forecast that in 2027 – when the new contract and concert enter into force – the incorporation of new professional profiles is promoted and improvements in services are implemented, in line with the national route map.

The early care service depends directly on the Aragonese Institute of Social Services – the base centers of Huesca and Teruel and the Zaragoza Children’s Care Center (CATI) – and is complemented by the Centers Concerted through the Public Services Management Contract with different entities in Huesca, Teruel and Zaragoza, where there are child development centers and early care (CDIAT). Among public, concerted and itinerant centers, the Autonomous Network of Early Care has more than twenty resources.

During the day, Susin has underlined the importance of these services arriving on equal terms to all the families that need them, regardless of their place of residence, and has recognized the work of the professionals who integrate this network: “their accompaniment is essential for the development of dozens of Aragonese children: they help prevent possible pathologies and significantly improve their personal autonomy,” he said.

He also reported that last Friday the order to call individual aids for early care by 2025 was published in the BOA. These grants can be requested by the families of children between 0 and 6 years that have recognized the need to access an early care service, issued by an IASS assessment team, for interventions such as psychotherapy, premature stimulation, physiotherapy, physiotherapy or speech therapy, and that are – or have been – on the waiting list to access a place and start treatment.

The bases of the call are available in the centers of the Network of the Aragonese Institute of Social Services and the procedure can be carried out through the electronic headquarters.
