
Manolo Zarzo, veteran of Spanish cinema dies: more than 150 titles and two key works in Aragon
Actor Manolo Zarzo, one of the most veteran and beloved figures of the cinema Spanish, he died on Monday at age 93 as reported by the Union of actors and actresses. With a race that covers more than seven decades and more than 150 titles in cinema, theater and television, Zarzo leaves behind an unmistakable legacy that also includes a significant connection with Aragonese cinema.
Among his last works, his participation in “The New Neighborhood” (2024), a short film directed by the Aragonese Víctor Izquierdo. The tape focuses on the reality of the elderly and is shot with a first level cast: José Luis Esteban, Miguel Ángel Tirado, in addition to Zarzo. He won 14 nominations and seven awards at the Simon of Aragonese Cinema, including better short, direction and actor.
Also, in 2020, he was part of the distribution of “Amalia in autumn”, a feature film co -directed by the Aragonese Anna Utrecht and Octavio Lasheras. Although the film did not initially premiered in Aragon, it addressed with crudeness and humanity the impact of pandemic on the elderly, in a story that connected with many families. Zaro shone on a role that, once again, evidenced his commitment to social draft stories.
With his death, Spanish cinema loses one of his great luxury, but Aragon, in particular, also says goodbye to an actor who knew how to look towards the territory and contribute to his audiovisual narrative with delivery and professionalism.
