Zaragoza will redesign the distribution of goods to gain public space and reduce emissions

Saragossa It takes a key step towards a more habitable and modern city with the implementation of a smarter and more sustainable merchandise distribution system. The initiative, the result of an agreement signed between the City hall and AECOC, will allow analyzing and redesigning how products are distributed in the city to reduce the traffic, improve efficiency and make the most human streets, adapted to new forms of consumption and mobility.

This agreement seeks to lay the foundations for an intelligent distribution that improves the quality of life in Zaragoza. AECOC, which groups more than 34,500 companies in the industrial, commercial and logistics sector, will work together with municipal technicians to analyze the current situation and propose effective solutions. Public-private collaboration will be key to transforming the distribution of goods into a more competitive model, respectful of the environment and focused on the citizen.

During the firm, the Minister of Environment and Mobility, Tatiana GaudesHe stressed that Zaragoza aspires to be a pioneer in the transformation of urban cast, a challenge that has already begun to be addressed since the new urban mobility ordinance. “We want the streets to be more human and that resources are used effectively to improve public space,” he said, thanking AECOC for his commitment to the city.

For its part, the Director of the AECOC Logistics and Transportation Area, María Tena, has stressed that urban distribution is one of the great challenges facing cities, due to the growth of tourism, electronic commerce and population density. He stressed that AECOC has made available to the City Council its experience in the supply chain and its accumulated knowledge after decades of work with other administrations, including successful projects such as night discharge or digitalization of loading and unloading areas.

Collaboration to implement concrete actions

Both entities have agreed that the collaboration will allow to adapt the solutions to the specific needs of each economic sector, since logistics does not impact in the same way on food, hospitality or health sector. The diagnosis that takes place in Zaragoza will be the starting point to implement concrete actions that contribute to a more efficient, habitable and prepared city for the logistics challenges of the present and the future.
