
Fighters, trenches and female memory: Fayón revives the battle of the Ebro
He Zaragozano municipality From Fayón this weekend will become the stage of one of the most relevant episodes of the Spanish Civil War. From July 25 to 27, the XVII Recreation of the Battle of Ebro is celebrated, an event declared a Festival of Tourist Interest of Aragon, which in this edition will pay special attention to the role played by women.
“His role in rear was very important, also on the front line, they actively participated in combat, in health, in Intendance, in supplements … and we also want to highlight the role that the woman had in the sabotage groups.” The heritage technician of the City Council of Fayón and Historian, Aitor García, explained.
Recreation will have the participation of some 300 recreation, from different parts of Spain And of the French group Brigadiste. Among them, the presence of Joël Ruiz, son of a Spanish emigrant volunteer who fought in the battle of the Ebro and other fronts with anarchist militias. On Friday 25, Ruiz will present the book “The Hidden War Journal of my father: notes, silences and mysteries”, based on personal documents of his parent.
Abraham Martínez, provincial deputy, has expressed his “pride” to the celebration of the XVII edition that is already “a reference for our entire territory.”
During the three days you can also visit the Ebro Battle Museum, considered one of the most complete museum equipment about the civil war in Spain. The center has more than 1,300 unused explosive artifacts, as well as aviation material, vehicles, weapons, recreations of campaign hospitals and a historical archive.

On Sunday the historical recreation will be transferred to position No. 36, a very prominent fortified hill during the battle of the Ebro. The secrets that hide have been recovering as it excavated archaeologically and that the recreaters will reproduce before the assistant public through the II living trench of historical recreation.

The recreation of the Battle of the Ebro is celebrated every year on the last weekend of July, coinciding with the anniversary of the attack of the Republican troops. The initiative arose from neighborhood impulse and has established itself as one of the most relevant cultural acts around the memory of the civil war in Aragon.
