The collection of last spring campaign of the Food bank of Saragossa It has meant a respite for the entity that started from a “critical” situation where it was even doubted to “reach summer.” The empty shelves and the lack of products as basic as milk jumped all the alarms of the food bank that decided to appeal to the solidarity of citizens to face this situation in last May.
The “emergency” messages were deep in the Zaragozanos, as a total of 130,000 euros were collected. As expressed by the president of the entity, José Ignacio Alfaro, have been 16,000 euros more than the previous year and have had numerous donations from individuals. “The situation has improved and has been fixed a lot. We have overcome the bump and that is good news,” he said.
The new situation has allowed around 21,000 families that are part of the Zaragoza Food Bank to receive three liters of milk a week. It is a record in the entity that began distributing one. Of course, they always point further and the next goal will be to reach the four liters. Alfaro has assured that this dairy is the “star product” of any food bank and although they do not solve the problem of hunger, they can “alleviate.”
After a few hard months in which the uncertainty of arriving at summer was imposed on the entity, the president states that thanks to the “generosity” of the people they have been able to raise what they needed and will “be able to spend the summer with peace of mind.”
The next movements of the Food Bank of Zaragoza will be given in September with the career organized with the National Police of 091 and in October with that of the Civil Guard where registrations will allow to obtain donations to buy food. Also, the first days of November will take place the traditional great collection.
