DFA Foundation and City Council of Zaragoza: an alliance to build a city without barriers

Jul 24, 2025

The Josemi Monserrate residence of the DFA Foundation has opened its doors this Friday, July 18, to the mayor of Saragossa, Natalia Chueca. Accompanied by the Minister of Policy, Social, Marian Orós, he has been able to know firsthand the services he houses, focused on attention to people with disabilities. Among them, a day center or a rehabilitation center, as well as various sociocultural and training activities.

For the mayor, the collaboration between the DFA Foundation and the City Council is indispensable for Zaragoza “to be one of the most accessible cities that are now in Spain“He stressed that” there is a very wide path to work, to continue advancing in the rights of all people, and that is why it is important to do so by the entities of the third sector and especially with the DFA Foundation. “

In addition to knowing the facilities, located in the Vadorrey neighborhood, the mayor has had the opportunity to speak with some of her users and relatives. Likewise, the visit has been guided by the president of the DFA Foundation, Marta Valencia, and the Director General, Luis Molina.

Strategic Universal Accessibility Plan

Natalia Chueca has expressed her gratitude to the DFA Foundation for the wide social work that she develops in the city and, in particular, for her collaboration to enrich the accessibility policies promoted by the City Council in recent years. Among these initiatives, the Strategic Universal Accessibility Plan of Zaragoza 2025-2030 stands out, the first of these characteristics that the city will have, and that has had the active participation of entities such as Fundación DFA.

The imminent approval of the Plan is one more step towards universal accessibility in Zaragoza, a path initiated with the approval of the accessibility and rights ordinance in 2023, which has been recognized with the Reina Letizia award. The objective of the plan is to promote a city and a city council more accessible in all its environments, equipment, processes, communication, information and services, to improve the quality of life of the entire population, regardless of their capabilities or vital situation.

The mayor also recalled that this autumn will open the Municipal Accessibility Office, a new public service, information and guidance for people with disabilities, entities, companies and for all citizens. It will be located in the Morlanes house.

Social Services Telephone Service

On the other hand, the DFA Foundation is the entity responsible for managing the telephone service line of the Social Services of the Zaragoza City Council (900 700 107). The mayor has also visited the Special Employment Center from which this centralized service is provided, through which a previous appointment can be requested in the municipal social services centers and obtain information on other services in the social policy area.

In the last year, 130,000 calls were attended through this telephone line in which 16 people work and that in recent years has established itself as a very useful tool to free the municipal staff from a workload that allows improving the provision of the service to the citizenship. The municipal staff continues to exercise social work exclusively and develops as always the competences of information, valuation, diagnosis and social orientation.
