
It is not in a museum: the most hidden fresco of Goya hides in a town only 20 min from Zaragoza
The painter Francisco de Goya He is one of the most famous Aragonese artists in history. Although it is linked above all to fuertodos and Saragossa, Goya also left his mark in other less known places. In one of them, his work adorns a vault decorated to the fresco in a church of the head of the region of the High Ribera del Ebro.
Alagón, just a few minutes from the Aragonese capital, also surprises with its patrimonial wealth: Mudejar Iglesias, remains of Renaissance architecture and centenary convents.

The House of Culture occupies the old school of the Jesuits. On its interior staircase is a little known artistic jewel: a fresh mural attributed to Francisco de Goya, entitled the exaltation of the name of Jesus. Painted around 1765, it is one of the few works of the painter that are preserved outside museums.

The visit to the fresco and the building is made exclusively by guided tour organized by the Tourism Office. In addition, in the basement plant you will find the Museum of Hispanic-Mexican contemporary art, with more than 100 pieces of artists from both countries. Admission is free.

Church of San Pedro and his Mudejar Tower
The Parish Church of San Pedro is the great emblem of Alagón. Built on the old mosque, its octagonal tower still retains the structure of the old Muslim mine. Its decoration with geometric figures faithfully follows the canons of the Aragonese Mudejar, declared a World Heritage by UNESCO.
The Church is freely accessible during worship, although to visit its tower and learn more about its history it is recommended to go with a guided tour, which is managed from the Tourism Office.
Ermita de la Virgen del Castillo
This little hermitage, included in the guided routes by the town, stands out for its sober beauty and its history linked to the religious traditions of the municipality. It is located in an elevated area with panoramic views of Alagón and its surroundings.
Although it usually only opens in organized celebrations and visits, it is possible to enjoy its surroundings at any time. Its simplicity and connection with the landscape make it an ideal corner for photography lovers and local heritage.
Natural walk through the El Caracol place
3 kilometers from the town center, at the confluence of the Jalón River and the imperial channel of Aragon, is the natural place known as El Caracol. It is a perfect area to walk, do PíCNIC or simply enjoy the landscape.
There you will find a mint with shade, green areas and an impressive aqueduct of the 18th century that allows the channel to cross the waters of the jalon. It is a perfect plan to combine nature and history in a relaxed and accessible environment.
How to get to Alagón
From Zaragoza
Alagón is just 25 kilometers from Zaragoza, so it can be easily arrived in 20 minutes by car through the A-68. It also has a C-1 and C-2 Cercanías Train Service, with journeys of just 25 minutes from the Delicias station. There are also bus connections daily from the capital.
From Huesca
From Huesca, the best option is to take the A-23 to Zaragoza and connect with the A-68 to Logroño, leaving in Alagón. The car journey lasts approximately 1 hour. The combination in public transport requires passing through Zaragoza and taking the train or bus from there.
From Teruel
From Teruel you get to Alagón in approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes. The most direct route is for the A-23 to Zaragoza, and from there continue for the A-68 to Alagón. In public transport, it is necessary to pass through Zaragoza and connect with vicinity or bus.
