Galactic, recognized in international awards for the best museum interior design
Galactic, the center of dissemination and practice of astronomy located in Arcos de las Salinas (Teruel), has been awarded the Bronze Award in the latest edition of the International Design Awards (IDA) for its interior design. The recognition has fallen to the Zero Condo study, responsible for the museum project that transforms the visitor’s route into a fluid trip through the universe through organic and suggestive forms.
The International Ida jury, which has evaluated proposals from more than 80 countries, has distinguished the work of the team led by Augusto Saavedra and composed of Cristián Duque, Santiago Ríos and Fabrizia Pacifico. The award -winning proposal stands out for its winding lines, integrated in the architectural space of the center, which guides visitors in an immersive tour of astronomy.
“Galactic could be defined architecturally as an ellipse that surrounds and protects telescopes,” they explain from zero. From that geometry, the team designed the interior based on the concept of laminar flow, an idea that evokes the soft and continuous movement of water and other fluids in nature. This principle has resulted in a museography built on curves and organic forms that arise from the architecture itself, conceived by the Mytaki study.
The result is an exhibition space that facilitates astronomical learning and also stimulates curiosity through a progressive experience, in which information is revealed little by little as the visit progresses. According to the award -winning team, the distribution of the “induces the visitor to an exploration attitude”, with a carefully structured content design next to the Cosmos Studies Studies Center of the Cosmos of Aragon (CEFCA), project promoter.
Since its opening two years ago, Galactic has received more than 25,000 visitors, attracted both for its powerful telescopes and for the visual and museographic account that the center offers. This is not the first distinction that the space receives, which already accumulates several national and international recognitions.
