Casablanca premieres a more accessible schools and larger sidewalks after the reform

Jul 30, 2025

The schools, located in the Zaragozano district of Casablanca, has reopened traffic after a comprehensive reform that has completely transformed its urban configuration. With an investment of almost 367,000 euros, the project has meant a significant improvement in accessibility, pedestrian mobility and urban aesthetics. The action responds to one of the main neighborhood demands and contributes to revitalize one of the commercial axes of the neighborhood.

The Minister of Urban Planning, Infrastructure, Energy and Housing of the Zaragoza City Council, Víctor Serrano, he visited this morning the result of the works, executed for six months by the company Agge and excavations Carmelo Lobera. Although the road is already open to traffic, some usual auctions of the end of the work are still pending, such as painting or fixing certain tiles.

Serrano explained that “the goal has been to create a more accessible and pleasant street, which invites you to walk through it and help revitalize the many commercial premises that it houses.”

With just 100 meters long, the street connects via Iberian with La Vía street and so far had sidewalks of just a meter wide, making mobility difficult. With the reform, the sidewalks have moved between 1.9 and 2.6 meters, eliminating the parking band to prioritize the pedestrian. The circulation lane has been maintained, although at a differentiated height, to reinforce road safety.

Renewal of pipes

In addition to superficial renewal, the reform has implied a complete modernization of underground infrastructure. Fiber cement pipes have been replaced with new drinking water pipes, the sanitation network has been renewed and the public lighting has been updated. The old lampposts fixed to the facades have been replaced by LED luminaries on the sidewalks, which provide better lighting without generating discomfort in homes.

This action is part of the urban regeneration plan that the City Council of Saragossa It is deploying in several neighborhoods of the city. There are currently other integral reforms in Santa Isabel, San José, Delicias and Miralbueno, as well as future projects in the Coso, the Plaza San Miguel, the Huerva River and the Portillo environment. According to the counselor Víctor Serrano, “these unprecedented investments demonstrate the municipal commitment to the improvement of urban space and the quality of life in all districts.”
