The Torrero cemetery incorporates solar panels: they will produce what 3,000 Zaragozanos consume
The Aragonese capital continues to take significant steps in its commitment to sustainability and renewable energy. On this occasion, by implementing a large photovoltaic installation in the Torrero Cemetery. This ambitious initiative, which will be ready before the day of all saints, will take advantage of the covers of zones 3 and 4 of the niches of the field, generating an energy equivalent to what 3,000 Zaragozanos consume a year.
“The works are in time. They are working continuously, the rush are being made and the installation of the Photovoltaic plates“The mayor of Zaragoza, Natalia Chueca, explained. In addition to this large -scale production, an autoconsumo energy community will be created for the cemetery itself, with 45 modules that will generate an estimated annual production of 36,812.5 kWh.
However, this is not the only project in which the Zaragoza City Council. This same Wednesday, the installation of solar panels in 18 pavilions and municipal buildings has been bidding. Both actions are part of the Comprehensive Energy Development and Sustainability Strategy of the Zaragoza City Council that seeks to transform the city towards a more sustainable model, reduce CO2 emissions and achieve climate neutrality by 2030.

Installation of plates in municipal equipment
The plates installation contract in municipal equipment, with a total duration of 16 years (one of construction and 15 of exploitation), will allow collective self -consumption, being the Zaragoza City Council itself the main consumer of this energy. It is estimated that the annual savings for municipal coffers will amount to 160,000 euros, which translates into 2.5 million euros throughout the validity of the exploitation.
Among the properties selected for this new contract are the sports pavilions of Delicias, Miralbueno, Juslibol, Tenería, La Jota, Torrero, Fernando Escartín, Ramiro Solans, Monzalbarba, San Juan de Mozarifar, Casetas, Montañana and San Gregorio. The Miralbueno Municipal Sports Center, the nature classroom of the large park, the Miralbueno Civic Center and the Brotheren and the platform schools and the platform are also included.
Chueca has emphasized that this project “is not an isolated performance”, but the reflection of a “coherent, ambitious and effective strategy.” “Zaragoza is a reference among the big cities for its energy transformation model, which is committed to the generation of clean energy for the self -consumption of municipal buildings, the efficiency of public spending and the creation of energy communities.” In addition, he added, “Zaragoza will also be the first Spanish city that obtains direct income from the clean energy it generates in its municipal buildings.”
Other energy projects
In total, the City Council of Zaragoza is promoting 12 projects that involve a public-private investment exceeding 36.6 million euros, whose objective is to use the urban space for the placement of photovoltaic facilities that serve the municipal infrastructure and whose surpluses of green energy are exploited by the Zaragoza society.
Among the projects underway, the contract stands out to generate clean energy with photovoltaic plates in four public parking lots, awarded to Repsol. The company will invest 5.6 million euros and yield part of the energy to the Consistory for nearby equipment. The installed power will amount to 2,199.20 kWP and the production will be 4,077,444 kWh/year, which will generate an estimated energy saving of 95,892 euros per year, adding more than 2.3 million euros in the 25 years of contract. This project will also include 40 recharge points for electric cars and 12 for motorcycles, bicycles and VMP.
Also, in the near future it is planned to carry out a similar initiative in 88 public and primary schools in the city and in industrial floors in Malpica and Empresarium.
