More than 890 Aragonese fathers and mothers ask for leaves for family care so far from 2025

Social Security has recognized a total of 897 leave due to children or other relatives in Aragon During the first semester of 2025, according to the latest data published by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration. This figure places Aragon among the autonomous communities with the lowest absolute number of leaves, behind communities such as Madrid (4,685), Catalonia (3,521) or Andalusia (2,827).

Of the total applications registered in Aragon, 83% corresponded to women (approximately 745 cases), while only 17% (152 cases) were processed by men, reflecting a notable gender inequality in the distribution of care responsibilities in the family. This pattern is consistent with the national average, where 83.1% of the leaves were also requested by women.

Regarding the benefit by birth and minor care, disaggregated figures for Aragon are not provided in the document, although it is indicated that the largest number of benefits in Spain He concentrated in Andalusia, Catalonia, Madrid and the Valencian Community. However, it is noted that the average duration of these benefits was 112.6 days for women and 108.9 days for men, reflecting a slight difference in effective care time.

Birth permit

The Ministry has also announced an extension of the birth permit, which goes from 16 to 19 weeks, the same and non -transferable for both parents, and which will also be applicable to single -parent families, which can enjoy up to 32 weeks permission. 

These measures are part of the government’s strategy to reinforce social protection in family care and promote greater equity between women and men in the workplace and domestic, they stand out in a press release. Applications for leave and benefit can be processed telematicly through the Social Security portal, which facilitates access to these rights to all Aragonese families.

During the first semester of 2025, a total of 6,307 parents in Aragon accessed the benefit for birth and care of minor, of which 2,851 were women (45.2%) and 3,456 men (54.8%).
