The use of the new Miguel de Cervantes library grows 41% in its first month of operation
During that first month, the library has counted 1,036 uses, compared to 787 registered in 2024 when it was still in its previous headquarters in Santa Teresa. In addition, 103 new partner bions have been distributed, of which 53 are children, and have significantly increased the loans of children’s and youth literature, with an increase of 79%.
“Not only do we keep the users of the previous library, but we have made many children approach for the first time to equipment such as a library,” said the vice president of the Municipal Board of Trustees of Education and Libraries and councilor of Education, Paloma Espinosa.
One of the key factors of this reception has been the creation of a specific children’s area, with books for ages from 0 to 14 years and a comfortable and cozy environment for families. In addition, he stressed that this is the first library designed with inclusion criteria, incorporating accessible materials such as Braille books, audiobooks and resources for people with dyslexia, in collaboration with entities such as full inclusion and eleven.
At a general level
Beyond the case of Miguel de Cervantes, the Municipal Network of Libraries crosses, in the words of the vice president, “a good moment.” From the beginning of the new summer schedule (June 23 to July 20), 36,044 loans and renovations have been counted, which represents an increase of almost 7% with respect to the same period last year. “What confirms the good reception of these schedules by users and the increase in reading habits in the population with the arrival of the holidays,” he said.
Some of the new projects
Since September, a new reading project will begin aloud for children from 4 to 7 years, organized by the Fernando Lázaro Carreter library in Torrero, under the name “My first family reading club”.
