A 95 -year -old resident of Rey Ardid Delicias culminates the replica of a ship after two years

Antonio Giménez, 95 and a user of the residence of older King Ardid Delicias, has held a “very special” event on Wednesday. The artisanal replica of the HMS Victory ship, built entirely by the resident for two years, has had a symbolic launch (throw the ship into the water for the first time). It is a project that has returned the illusion to his life and has inspired the entire center.

Antonio, former cabinet and carpenter, entered the residence five years ago accompanying his wife. After his death, and with sadness in tow, he felt he had lost his way. It was then, together with their son, when they devised a project to dream again: build a ship.

And not just any ship: HMS Victory, British War Ship of the 18th century, famous for being the flagship of Admiral Nelson in the battle of Trafalgar. To realize this feat, the residence team enabled him a space as a shipyard, where for almost two years he worked daily with care and precision, as if each wooden chip were a small conquest.

The launch act, held this morning at the facilities of the Center, has brought together relatives, residents, center workers, representatives of the King Ardid Foundation, as well as to Paco Guinoa, of the IASS Management, and Encarnación Blessed, Provincial Director of the IASS. Everyone wanted to pay tribute to a man whose history shows that old age is not an end, but a chapter more full of potential, creativity and legacy.
