Yellow storm warning: possible sudden floods in southern rivers of the Ebro basin

Aug 4, 2025

The Ebro Hydrographic Confederation (Che) has issued this Saturday a warning about the possibility of floods Sudden in ravines and minor channels in various parts of the southern sector of the Ebro basin, following yellow notices for heavy rains and storms issued by the State Meteorology Agency (Aemet).

According to the information disseminated by the Che, rainfall is expected to reach or exceed 20 liters per square meter in an hour during the afternoon of this August 2. The areas with the highest risk are the high basin of the Jalón River, in the provinces of Guadalajara and Soria, and the Jiloca and Guadalope rivers basins, located in the province of Teruel.

Call for precaution and monitoring of official sources

Given this situation, the Confederation recommends that the population follow the evolution of meteorological and hydrological data through official channels such as the Aemet website, the Saih Ebro’s automatic hydrological information system, the official che and its account in the social network X (old twitter), @ch_ebro.

From the institution it is also recalled that, in case of adverse phenomena, it is essential to follow the indications of civil protection services to guarantee citizen security.

Special surveillance in mountain areas and dry channels

These types of weather situations can lead to fast floods in dried ravines and channels, especially in mountain areas or in places where rainfall is intense in short periods of time. Although these minor water courses are usually dry for much of the year, stormy rains can cause sudden and dangerous floods, with the capacity to drag people, vehicles and cause material damage.

Che insists that these phenomena, typical of summer weather, require constant surveillance and individual responsibility by citizens who are or move to rural or mountain areas in the next few hours.
