The works of the “Cube” will end at the end of August with the placement of the slabs

The works to completely suppress the historic “cube” that housed the Tourism Office of the Plaza del Pilar advance at a good pace and could end at the end of August. The construction company Carmelo Lobera, who knocked down the entire building last Monday, has removed the rubble and, in the next few days, will waterproof the ground.

When the construction company finishes the work, it will be the turn of the Zaragoza City Council, who will place the granite slabs that will return the uniformity to the environment of the environment. If the forecasts are completed, at the end of this month the Plaza del Pilar will look completely clear, recovering its amplitude and its monumental character.

The demolition of the former Tourism Office, raised in 1991, was approved on June 26 by the Provincial Heritage Commission with the aim of promoting the security and monumentality of the most emblematic square of the city. The total cost of the intervention has been 41,140 euros, VAT included.

The disassembly began on July 16 with the withdrawal of the window, and in less than two weeks, the machines had made the structure disappear completely. It was on July 28 when the works focused on removing the last visible remains, leaving only rubble in an already empty space.

No use since December 2023

The “cube” was unused at the end of December 2023, when the City Council premiered a new tourist office a few meters Saragossa.
