The “Turbo Rotondas” arrive in Zaragoza: Arcosur premieres one of the greatest in Spain

Saragossa It has inaugurated the first “Turbo Rotonda” of the city in the Arcosur neighborhood, an infrastructure that marks a before and after in the road network of the Aragonese capital. With 110 meters in diameter, it is one of the largest of Spain In its category and is designed to improve the fluidity of traffic, especially during peak hours. Its “channeled” structure forces drivers to choose their output before access, eliminating lane changes inside and thus reducing accident risks.

Located in the Arcosur link with the N-II, the roundabout has up to three segregated interior lanes. According to technical calculations, you can absorb between 15,000 and 18,000 vehicles per day. Its design responds to the need to effectively channel both the residential traffic of the neighborhood – one of the largest projection in Zaragoza – and the passing towards the Plaza Logistics Platform and other interurban destinations.

The Councilor for Infrastructure, Tatiana Gaudes, stressed that this solution responds to “a city vision that anticipates the growth of Arcosur and adapts to the real needs of current and future traffic.” Gaudes has added that “this type of roundabouts allow to increase the capacity of intersection by up to 30% and reduce accidents by 75% compared to conventional ones.”

The new roundabout includes a specific signage in its accesses, designed to guide drivers from their entrance to the right output without interference. This not only speeds up traffic, but also reduces emissions and fuel consumption by avoiding braking and withholdings. Its geometry is specially designed to adapt to the passage of heavy vehicles and buses.

“Arcosur needed an infrastructure at the height of its development,” Gaudes said. “This roundabout turbo is a sign of how traffic engineering can improve the daily quality of life of thousands of neighbors.” With its implementation, he added, Zaragoza joins other European cities that already bet on this type of innovative solutions for more efficient, safe and sustainable traffic.
