
More than 4,000 short films from 115 countries will compete at the X Mequinenza International Film Festival
The International Film Festival of Mequinenza (MFF) celebrates its tenth anniversary with a great participation with 4,025 short films from 115 countries, a figure that touches its historical maximum of 2022 (4,118 works) and that consolidates its position between the most relevant international competitions of the short film.
The 2025 edition also marks the official premiere of its statement as a tourist interest activity of Aragon, recognition that reinforces its cultural and tourist impact. Compared to the last edition, in which 3,151 shorts from 131 countries were recorded, the festival has experienced remarkable growth in all its categories.
The increase in the documentary category stands out, which grows 58.24 %, from 601 to 953 works. It follows fiction (+29.44 %), animation (+18.08 %) and Western (+8.36 %). The category of best Aragonese short film, which has doubled its inscriptions, also exceeds 13 to 26 works.
Among the most represented countries are Spain (275), France (217), Türkiye (127), United States (125), Italy (123) and China (123). In addition, the festival has received work from places as diverse as Sri Lanka, Kyrguistan, Cambodia, Hong Kong or Australia, reflecting its global and plural character.
The selected works that will compete in the official section will be announced in the coming weeks. The projections will take place from September 4 to 6 in the Goya room.
From the organization they value the international response very positively and remember that the MFF is part of the network of festivals and film samples in Aragon (Arafilmfest). His identity, marked by cinema, water, the river landscape and the cultural heritage of Mequinenza, continues to attract more and more creators.
