What is a counting camera and how it will work in the Plaza del Pilar de Zaragoza

Saragossa It reinforces its safety in the Plaza del Pilar with an intelligent agar counting system through cameras, which will serve especially in moments of high concentration of people, such as Fiestas del Pilar. This technology will allow the City Council to meet in real time how many people are in the environment, to prevent agglomerations and make quick decisions if necessary.

The operation of the system is completely automatic and does not require human intervention. The cameras, installed at strategic points, detect each person in milliseconds thanks to artificial intelligence that only recognizes human bodies. Neither banners, nor lights, nor shadows interfere in the count. Each person detected receives a temporary and anonymous code that allows to follow their movement without storing any personal data.

When someone enters or leaves the controlled area, the camera generates a small message with the exact time and the door through which it has passed, thus adding the total number of people within the area. The system corrects errors automatically – for example, if several cameras monitor the same access – and update the total number of attendees every second, with precision that can reach 99.9%.

In addition, these cameras are emphasized every night, adapting to the possible changes of light or decoration. The entire system is approved by the Spanish Metrology Center, which guarantees its reliability. With this measure, Zaragoza advances to possible security problems and improves the management of mass events in its most emblematic square.
