Zaragoza will buy two new horses for the Local Police Cavalry Unit
Saragossa prepares the generational relief in its historic cavalry unit of the Local Police. The City Council has launched a tender for the acquisition of two new horses that will reinforce and renew the unit, currently formed by six copies. The operation, valued at 10,000 euros (VAT included).
The Zaragoza Local Police Cavalry Unit is made up of a team of six agents, composed of a woman and five men, who directly assume all tasks related to the care, maintenance and daily training of horses.
Currently, it has six assigned horses: Parzival, a Central European horse (KWPN) of Gran Alzada with 17 years; I will have a 14 -year -old Spanish and lusitan crossing; Bamboo, a pure 11 -year -old Spanish race; and three more horses of the same race – borí, Odin and Montolar – all of them with 7 years of age. Each of these animals is carefully prepared to effectively respond to the demands of the police service, both in patrols and in protocol acts.

The cavalry unit meets both operational and protocol functions. Their agents regularly patrol for green areas and perimeter roads in Zaragoza, in addition to participating in events such as Holy Week processions, the Cavalcata de Reyes, the Offering of Flores del Pilar or official parades. Only in the last year they have intervened in more than 30 galas and 150 urban surveillance services. The equestrian presence also provides a symbolic and institutional component of great value for the city and educational acts with children are also performed.
With more than 170 years of history, Zaragoza cavalry keeps a unique tradition alive. Since its creation in 1850, the body has evolved to become a symbol of the Local Police.
