Zaragoza activates the emergency plan for heat wave: cheap pools and climatic shelters

Before the heat wave that is ravaging the city of Saragossa and the orange and yellow alerts issued by the State Meteorology Agency (Aemet), he Zaragoza City Council The orange alert of the Municipal Emergency Plan for heat wave will activate this Saturday, August 9 at 08.00. According to the AEMET, the thermometer will reach this Saturday and Sunday about 40º degrees and a minimum of 23º. Monday is the day in which a more pronounced rise in mercury is planned, with 43º and minimum maximum of 26º, to descend in 1st or 2nd in later days, both the maximum and the minimum, until Thursday.

This weather forecast has taken the Department of Firefighters and Civil Protection, directed by Councilor Ruth Bravo, to activate the orange alert by heat wave. The notice for high temperatures will be transmitted to the entire population by different channels.

Municipal pools and climatic shelters

Among the measures taken for these cases, the price of the individual entrance of the municipal pools is reduced, provided that it is acquired at the box office. The cost will go from 4 euros to 2.5 euros in the case of adults; 2.70 to 2 euros for minors; and from 2.60 to 2 euros for over 65 years and pensioners.

In addition, the City Council of Zaragoza has a network of climatic shelters composed of 55 municipal equipment that is available in its opening schedule. To the coexistence centers of the elderly and the civic centers of the city that already worked last year, this summer the exhibition hall of Pignatelli deposits or the headquarters of the Environment Office at Casa Jiménez has been added.

Different tools with which citizens can take measures to protect themselves more adequately.

Extreme precautionary measures

Although all people may suffer from the excess of heat, people over 65, children under five, especially babies, and those who perform an intense physical activity have greater risk and, therefore, must be especially protected.

Therefore, from the Office of the Major, from the Community Social Services and from the Municipal Telecare Service, users of all recommendations, through posters, brochures and personalized attention will be informed. On the other hand, the municipal shelter will take measures to guarantee the accommodation and the correct hydration of the users, and will transfer the appropriate recommendations to avoid risks.

Civil Protection volunteers will monitor open spaces and green areas to serve incidents and remind the neighbors of personal care, and sources will be activated so that citizens can cool off.

From the City Council, the following caution measures are recommended:

Personal care

• Drink water without waiting to be thirsty. Avoid all types of alcoholic beverages. If any medication is being chronic, consult with the doctor.
• Avoid hot or heavy meals.
• Wear appropriate clothes: light, not tight, of light colors and preferably cotton, avoiding synthetic clothes.
• Use hat or cap to protect yourself from the sun.
• Use sun protection.
• About 30 minutes before leaving the sun apply protective cream with protection factor greater than 15 and repeat the operation often.

Home protection

• During the day, keep the windows and blinds closed to protect heat house.
• Take the opportunity to ventilate the house at night, when temperatures have dropped.

Daily activities

• It is not advisable to perform demanding physical activities when it is very hot.
• Plan activities at dawn or sunset, when temperatures are not so high.
• Do not leave children, elderly or animals in closed cars. The excess heat may be due to a very intense and short exposure or one maintained over time.

The first signs of heat blow are cramps, skin irritation or burns, exhaustion or high temperature. In those cases, it is recommended to look for shadow, drink a fresh non -alcoholic drink, rest, shower with fresh water and get light clothes.

If serious symptoms appear, such as headache, vomiting or loss of consciousness, you should quickly go to the Emergency Department or 061 or 112 phones.
