From the first hour, the Oscenses, even with the hangover – emotional and others rather festive – from the start of the celebrations, filled the Plaza de San Lorenzo to pay tribute to their patron and live one of the most anticipated days of the year.
The traditional first dance of the dancers opened, at 08.30, its performance in honor of San Lorenzo. Between applause and excited looks, the dances that are part of this cultural jewel, swords, old sticks, new sticks, ribbons and the Degollau have been happening. All this to the rhythm of the music band of Huesca, that accompanied every step in a crowded square.
Some dances that contain their breath and that, for a few minutes, they managed that in the square only the collide of the swords and melodies of the band was heard, causing a shared feeling of pride and tradition.
After the performance, the solemn procession began, chaired by the image of the saint and wrapped by the dancers, which this year acquired a special meaning when the 1,800 anniversary of the birth of San Lorenzo was commemorated. During the tour, the dancers have interpreted the dance of the swords after the Holy base, advancing through the streets of the historic center until reaching the Plaza de la Cathedral.
The procession has continued with the incorporation of the municipal council and other authorities, and then return to the Basilica. There, the entrance of the Bust of the Saint, carried towards the altar, has been received with a closed ovation. Then, the dancers have again excited dancing the dance of the swords inside the temple, thus culminating one of the most intense and symbolic moments of the big day of the city.
