Aragon produces 89% renewable energy and photovoltaic is the one that grows the most

The community is consolidated as an energy power in Spain having exported in 2024 54% of the energy it generated. The vast majority of this production (89%) comes from renewable and wind sources “remains our flag”, in the words of the general director of Energy and Mines, Yolanda Vallés.

The data is detached from the 2024 Energy Cay Summary, presented this Friday by the Aragon Government, which confirms the strategic position of Aragon in this matter thanks to the wind and the sun. A positioning reinforced by the situation of energy deficiency of nearby communities such as the Basque Country, Catalonia, Valencian Community or Madrid.

Aragon generated last year 21,893 GWh of energy and wind was the main source contributing 52% of production. In this case, there was a small descent compared to 2023 because it was a very rainy year. On the other hand, the photovoltaic and the hydroelectric plant contributed in proportion more than in previous years with 19% and 17% respectively.

The photovoltaic, the one that will grow the most

Solar energy has a power installed in Aragon of 3,976 mv/h becoming which “has registered a greater increase than in recent years.” In addition, Yolanda Vallés says that it is “where there are more growth margin, we have more than 3,000 mv/h authorized to install, a figure higher than those approved for wind.”

Yeah Aragon It consumed all the energy it produces would have a supply capacity of 185% brushing 90% of renewable sources compared to 57% of Spain. All in an upward trend that “annually demonstrates the commitment to clean energy in the community. In all data we are above the average. Both in the production of renewable energy in general and wind in particular and in the reduction of CO2. We can say that Aragon considers renewable energy as a fundamental element of the present and the future,” said the general director of Energy.

Consumption increased 3.73%

In Aragon the final energy consumption grew by 2024 3.73%. The industry is the sector that most consumed (38.59%), followed by transport (31.44%), residential or omercial (20.57%) and, finally, agriculture with 9%.

The origin of this energy was mainly oil products with 38.5% due to the consumption of transport being Aragon a logistics center of national relevance. 24.3% of the energy consumed was electric and 15.1% natural gas.
