Advances with Blackstone in Calatorao: the complex will be greener than expected

Aug 12, 2025

The Rhodes project, the initiative of Blackstone To lift data macrocentros in Calatorao (Valdejalón), continue advancing with firm steps. The Official Gazette of Aragon (BOA) has collected an order from the vertebration department that marks technical modifications in the first phase of the project, which occupies a total of 130.38 hectares. The main novelty is the expansion of green areas within this plot, which will be more continuous and accessible, thus improving its landscape and environmental integration.

These changes have been achieved by redistributing some buildings and auxiliary infrastructure, which prevents the planned initial fragmentation. In addition, the access, interior roads, channels and service conductions are adjusted without all this pose relevant changes in the project itself and its development.

While it is true that Rhodes is mostly located in the municipality of Calatorao, some exterior connections-such as electric lines, water pipes and accesses from the A-2 highway-also affect land from other localities of the Valdejalón region (Alfamén, Epila, Lucena de Jalón or even the Almunia). These infrastructure are in the same key way to guarantee the energy supply and connectivity necessary for the operation of the complex.

200 hectares if a second phase is completed

Declared Autonomous General Interest Plan (Piga), the Rhodes project of the American giant plans to develop in two phases. The first covers 130.38 hectares, and the second adds 75.46 hectares, which is a total of more than 205 hectares.

The intentionality and nature of the initiative is to develop a stepped construction. Now the first phase is about to go under execution (according to the deadlines contemplated in the first instance by the DGA) and the second phase offers the possibility of expanding with a second building dedicated to storing information. In short, the update and the new delimitation of plots is a firm step. Administrative processing is advanced in such a way that its original nature and approach are maintained.

The socioeconomic impact is maintained

The estimated economic and labor impact is maintained, with the creation of more than 1,400 direct jobs – 1,200 in the construction phase – and between 1,100 and 2,000 indirect jobs. The initial investment announced by the Aragon government amounts to 7.5 billion euros, which could reach 15,000 if the second phase develops.
