The reform of San Miguel and El Coso advances: the City Council entrusts the supervision of the works

The future comprehensive reform of the Plaza de San Miguel and Calle del Coso takes impulse with a key step: the Zaragoza City Council He has brought to tender the technical assistance for the supervision of the works, with a contract of 165,000 euros and an execution period of 510 days. This commission will allow to coordinate and control a project that, after the Pilar festivities, will transform one of the most emblematic axes of the city, from the Paseo de la Independencia to the Huerva River.

The works, which will begin from October 12, 2025, will be held in four phases and will have an estimated duration of 17 months. The total municipal investment amounts to 8.99 million euros and will allow acting over more than 15,700 square meters to create a safer, accessible and sustainable space. The Coso Calzada will have two 6.80 -meter lanes and a 2.60 -meter bike lane, while the sidewalks will have variable wide that will improve accessibility.

In terms of green areas, the Coso will win 39 new trees – 37 luses and 2 tuliperos -, in addition to split and gardeners with floral and shrub compositions. The existing specimens will be kept and new will be planted to replicate the character of the Paseo de la Independencia. The project will also completely renew the supply and sanitation networks, replace old pipes and improve public lighting with LED technology, optimizing energy consumption.

In the Plaza de San Miguel, the Rediseño foresees a decentrated road axis to gain pedestrian space next to the Church. There will be landscaped splints, 27 new trees of different species, shadow areas and a bike lane integrated in the urban space. 27 benches, 10 chairs, a parkabicis and a shadow pergola with demand rain system will be installed, which will include water games for children and autonomous LED lighting by solar panels.

The contracted technical assistance will be essential for the work to be executed by meeting the technical, normative and quality standards. The objective of this assistance is to ensure that the transformation of the COSO and the Plaza de San Miguel is completed in the period and with the expected quality, making this area a reference of public space renewed into Saragossa.
