Zaragoza prepares 71 new firefighters so that they are fully operational in early 2026
Saragossa It will strengthen its safety with the incorporation of 71 new troops to the Municipal Fire Department as of September. The professionals, who exceeded the oppositions last July, will begin a training course of around 400 hours to become familiar with the procedures and equipment. The forecast is that at the beginning of 2026 they are fully operational and distributed between the different parks of the city.
The announcement was made by the acting mayor, Alfonso Mendoza, during a visit to Park 1 of Firefighters, within a tour of the essential services that remain active even in the middle of the August bridge. Mendoza has underlined the importance of guaranteeing citizen security throughout the year, “be it August, September or the day,” and thanked the dedication of those who work in areas such as emergencies, supplies or social care.
With these incorporations, the firefighters and health personnel of the body will exceed 500 people, reaching 98% coverage, a level close to one hundred percent that, according to the acting mayor, had never been achieved in the city. Since 2019, the workforce has grown almost 20%, thanks to the latest public employment offers approved unanimously by the eight municipal unions.
During the training, the new troops will carry out work to support operational equipment, contributing to daily services while completing their preparation. Once this period has been overcome, they will fully integrate into the tasks of prevention, fire extinguishing and rescue, thus increasing the body’s response capacity to emergencies.
Mendoza wanted to highlight the professionalism of Zaragoza firefighters, remembering recent performances in complex claims that were successfully resolved thanks to their experience. “With these 71 new professionals, we make a body that is already one of the best in Spain, and we reinforce our commitment to the safety and well -being of all Zaragozanos, ”he concluded.
