The Blavic Water Channel of the Expo, closer to its reopening with cleaning works
He Zaragoza City Council He has started the procedures to recover the brave water channel of the Water Park, closed for almost two decades for leaks. The General Directorate of Strategic Projects and External Projection has brought a minor contract for the emptying, dredging and cleaning of the lower raft, with the removal of sludge, for an amount of 47,843.40 euros with VAT. The deadline for submitting offers concludes on August 20 and the works will have an estimated duration of 12 days.
The objective, according to the Consistory, is to allocate this infrastructure for sports purposes of municipal interest, once the cleaning work is executed. The history of Bravas Channel It has been marked by controversy. With an initial investment of six million euros for Expo 2008, the installation was unusable shortly after opening due to leaks of leaks in the lower raft. Since then, it has remained closed and in a state of abandonment, with several failed reactivation attempts, such as the one raised in 2022 to transform it into a sports and leisure center with the support of the Aragonese Federation of canoeing.
The recovery project three years ago contemplated a professional training center, sports training programs and aquatic activities open to the public. However, the lack of economic viability stopped its development. Now, the Consistory is confident that repair and waterproofing will allow the installation to be reopened and give new use to one of the most unique infrastructure of the Aragonese capital.
The Water Canal, located in the Luis Buñuel Water Park, was built in a land annexed to the Expo enclosure. Inaugurated in the test phase in September 2007, it was part of the set of leisure equipment promoted for the international sample.
