The Aragonese Water Institute invests 166,000 euros to restore the supply in Mazaleón
The Aragonese Water Institute has executed emergency works in Mazaleón (Teruel) With an investment of 166,000 euros. The action has included the repair of the AZUD, the reinforcement of the storage deposits and the installation of a low voltage electrical line to guarantee the operation of the well pump.
The October 2024 flood, with a flow greater than 600 cubic meters per second, flooded the river azud, burning it under sludge and gravels, and spyed the gross water tank that supplies the municipal purification. Since last November, the residents of Mazaleón have depended on the supply of water through covers contributed by the firefighters of the Teruel Provincial Council, given the impossibility of accessing the infrastructure damaged by the high flows.
The IAA managing director, Luis Estaún, has visited today the works carried out, together with the president of the Provincial Council of Teruel, Joaquín Juste, given that the provincial institution has executed the works of the well that supplies the town.
The Mazaleón City Council requested help to the Aragonese Institute of Water and the municipality was included in Annex 1 of Decree-Law 2/2024 that collects the localities affected by extreme meteorological phenomena. After technical inspections, the need to intervene immediately to guarantee water supply for human consumption was determined.
