The Board of Trustees of the National Museum of Art of Catalonia (MNAC) has gathered this Monday to agree on the filing of an “execution incidence” regarding the sentence for the transfer of mural paintings to the monastery of Sijena. They will allege before the judge “technical disability” to undertake the mandate of the Supreme Court, as agents involved have agreed: Generalitat de Cataluña, Barcelona City Council and Ministry of Culture. The same who have urged to collaborate to the Government of Aragon.

In the brief, disseminated after several hours of the meeting, at least at the entrance is ruled out, to raise an appeal for the Constitutional Court. The MNAC “states the will” to “comply with the judicial resolutions issued so far in relation to the wall paintings.”

The technicians declare “the impossibility of transferring the wall paintings” for their restitution in the chapter room “without putting them at risk.” “In the same way, and with the will to comply with the sentence, it is agreed to work with the different administrations that make up the consortium” and create “a work group, of a technical nature and integrated only with the purpose of evaluating and carrying out” the necessary work to follow the indications of the legal resolutions issued to date. The MNAC tends the hand to the Aragon government to integrate into said technical body.

The museum uses the text to “unanimously highlight the impeccable work done by the MNAC over the years in the custody and conservation of these paintings, saved and rescued by Josep Gudiol in 1936”. They also highlight “how at the same time” have “guaranteed their universal accessibility” for “millions of people” and “studied within the framework of scientific congresses on the most prestigious Romanesque in the world.”

In the statement, they also record “the patrimonial and artistic value that the paintings have.” They add that “the Royal Monastery of Santa María de Sijena was declared a National Monument” in 1923. The paintings are also “well of cultural interest.”
