However, not everything is what it seems. And despite the apparent good condition of the 23 copies that this central route of the Aragonese capital has, the truth is that a study of the parks and garden service has revealed that the state of its trunk and roots is not such. In fact, they have a possible risk of falling that could affect citizens.

Given this situation, the Zaragoza City Council, which has already removed three of these trees last Friday before the forecast of weather storms of the weekend, has now been forced to make the decision to cut all the trees that this avenue has from Torre Nueva Avenue to El Coso street, on both sides of the tram tracks.
“After studying this report in depth and knowing the state in which the other 23 copies are found, to avoid damage and dangers, what we have to do is appeal them,” said the Minister of Environment and Mobility, Tatiana Gaudes, who has also assured that, as soon as possible, new trees will be planted.
Status of some of the trunks that have already been removed
“The life cycle of these trees has ended and we have to get them out however it hurts us and as much as we see them so great and give a lot of shadow,” Gaudes continued. Specifically, the counselor has detailed that the state in which these trees are responding to two reasons. On the one hand, their own idiosyncrasy, since these usually grow expansively and in this area of the city, with the facades so close, they have been forced to lean more ease to part.
On the other hand, the works that have taken place close to these spaces, such as the tram, which could have affected their roots. And, Gaudes has pointed out, the works came to bury “up to 40 centimeters the trunk of these.”
Replacement for new trees
The withdrawal work of the trees will last during this week. From here, replantation will be carried out in the winter months. Instead, copies of the so -called “Tree of Love” will be planted. It is a more appropriate species for this type of road, since it does not develop so much height and its roots will better adapt to the space available in the subsoil.
The withdrawal of these trees will involve the loss of shadow for this commercial area during the summer months. However, given the rush of work and its subsequent plantation in a few months, the City Council of Zaragoza does not plan to take additional measures. In any case, Gaudes has specified, “we are open to study any idea that the neighbors move us.”
