Urbanism orders the demolition of the three buildings evicted in the hook
He Zaragoza City Council This Friday has decreed the demolition of the three buildings located in the neighborhood of The hook (72 and 74 of Pignatelli Street and number 13 of Zamoray Street), after a new in -depth technical inspection that has confirmed the serious structural damage of real estate, declared in a state of imminent ruin. According to the consistory data, affected people amount to a total of 22, of which eight are minors. The eviction has begun after noon with the arrival of social services, followed by Local Police and Firefighters. In principle, all those affected will be welcomed in their family network, in the municipal shelter and in individual rooms.
The eviction operation has been coordinated by urbanism, social services, local police and firefighters in a preventive action motivated by the negative evolution of the damage detected within the framework of the building inspection plan in the area. This plan has the support of both the neighbors and the municipal political groups, and has allowed to identify structural deficiencies that today have forced an immediate response.

Suitcases, furniture, bags and even a fridge are some of the images that have been observed during eviction.
According to municipal urban inspection technicians, the three buildings have an obvious risk to security, which has led to them being officially declared in an imminent ruin during this morning. This implies that the City Council, in a subsidiary way, will undertake in the next few days the enclosure of access and the minimum structural propositioning to guarantee stability until its demolition.
Furniture, appliances and many bags and suitcases
According to the planned protocol, next week the timely access of the old tenants to the real estate will be allowed, accompanied by the Local Police and the Firefighters, so that they can collect personal belongings that have remained inside the homes. This phase will also be coordinated by social services, which have been working for days with affected families to guarantee their safety and meet their basic needs.
First it has been the turn of numbers 72 and 74 of Ramón Pignatelli street, where social services have been all morning with the affected neighbors. About 1:00 p.m., the City Council and Firefighters from the City Council have arrived to help those affected to take out the household goods. Many suitcases, bags and even a fridge are some of the images that have happened during eviction, which has developed without incident. The eviction of number 13 of Zamoray street was scheduled at 2:00 p.m. but has been delayed until it ends in Pignatelli.
Once the eviction process is completed, the City Council will proceed to the demolition of the three buildings, a measure that will be executed to eliminate any risk for the physical integrity of neighbors and pedestrians in this area of the Zaragozano historic center. The action is framed within the objective of urban regeneration and recovery of the degraded environment of the neighborhood of El Hook.
From the municipal social services, the individualized monitoring and assessment of each of the people affected by the eviction will continue, in order to provide stable housing solutions and accompaniment during this process. The family module of the shelter and other emergency housing resources have been activated to host those who do not have an immediate alternative.
“Measures necessary for the safety of neighbors”
Municipal sources insist that these evictions are a direct consequence of the structural deficiencies detected and not of a sudden action. “These are necessary and coordinated measures to protect the safety of neighbors and avoid possible collapses,” they explain from urbanism.
The imminent ruin statement and the imminent demolition of buildings involve drastic but necessary in an area that concentrates a significant number of vulnerable buildings. The City Council is confident that the inspection plan and the reinforcement of social policies allow to give a comprehensive response to the habitability problems of the neighborhood and advance its recovery.
