Three routes on Huesca catwalks to enjoy on the edge of the gorge
Aragon It is the land of treasures, natural tourism and impressive landscapes that can be seen in every corner, Huesca to Teruel going through Saragossa. Mountains, rivers, vegetation, rock formations … All this is seen from a much more special prism if we talk about some of the jewels of the community: their catwalks. These suspended structures allow visitor to enter throats, cliffs and rivers as they had never imagined before. It is a type of tourism that puts the courage of each one (according to the vertigo that one has) and offers a unique panoramic to see nature from different points.
In Huesca, one can admire from the Sierra de Guara to the Pyrenees in those hanging bridges that give that adrenaline point while spectacular landscapes. The popularity of the catwalks in the capital of Oscense has grown in recent years thanks to the recovery of some historical paths and condition some steps. Touring these catwalks is a way of approaching the geological and cultural history of the province, enjoying hanging sections, tunnels excavated in the rock and natural viewpoints on crystalline rivers.
Of the alkézar catwalks to those of Panticosa, Huesca offers different routes to have impressive views on the edge of the gorge.

Alquézar catwalks route
Located in the Natural Park of the Sierra and Los Canons de Guara, Alquézar catwalks are an icon of high tourism in Aragon. This route allows you to enter the spectacular canyon of the Vero River, through a catwalk system that rises at several heights, combining sections at the water level with others that hang at tens of meters. The experience is accessible to the whole family, with a circular route of about 3 kilometers.
The natural environment is one of the biggest attractions of this route. The waters of the Vero River, of a hypnotizing turquoise color, contrast with the limestone rock walls of the canyon. In addition, the area houses a unique biodiversity, including raptors such as the breakthrough, which can be sighted during the walk. The sound of water and the tranquility of the place make it an ideal corner for nature lovers.
The alquézar catwalks route is paid and tickets can be bought both in person and online. When buying the tickets, the time slot must be selected in which the route will be made in order to avoid agglomerations and they are one of the most popular tourist attractions in Aragon.
The price is five euros per person except for children under 11 who are exempt from payment. The mountain federated will pay two euros but have to pay accreditation.
Montfalcó catwalks route
Known as “The Way of Heaven”, the catwalks of Montfalcó are an experience that mixes vertigo and adventure. Although technically they are found on the border between Aragon and Catalonia, their access from the Aragonese side makes them an essential.

The road begins in the Montfalcó shelter, in the municipality of Viacamp and Litera, and enters a film scenario: suspended wooden stairs, narrow steps excavated in the rock and hanging bridges that save cannons of more than 500 meters deep.
These catwalks are carved directly on the walls of the Congost of Mont-Rebei, a narrow cannon where the Ribagorzana River has created a dream landscape. The most impressive is the stretch of vertical stairs, a test for those looking for strong emotions. From the top, the visitor can enjoy spectacular views to the Canelles reservoir, whose turquoise blue tones contrast with the rock walls.
To make the rougost route of Mont-Rebei to the catwalks of Montfalcó starting from the Masieta parking, in the Catalan part of the route, it is necessary to reserve entrance via the Internet to be able to park our vehicle and make the route. The price is 8 euros per vehicle.
Panticosa catwalks route
Located in the Tena Valley, Panticosa’s catwalks are wonderful for those who want to enjoy the Aragonese Pyrenees from a different perspective. This route, which was inaugurated in 2021, is relatively short but intense, since the catwalks rise on the Caldares river and cross the spectacular gorge of Santa Elena.
One of the most fascinating curiosities of this route is how history and nature combines: a few meters away are the remains of the Hermitage of Santa Elena, which dates back to the thirteenth century. It is a few hanging steps on the congosto wall itself on an 800 meter route with an approximate duration of one hour and 160 meters of unevenness.
