Litera Meat (Binéfar, Huesca) reaffirms its commitment to sustainability and decarbonization, advancing towards a more innovative, competitive and efficient productive model. In this sense, the company, which began its activity in 2019, shows its satisfaction after recent approval of 9.5 million euros from the but of decarbonization, being one of the agri -food companies in the country that receives the greatest financing to develop new sustainable projects.
The company, which this year celebrates its sixth anniversary, shows its firm commitment to sustainability and technological progress, and is positioned as a reference plant at European level both for its innovative infrastructure and its processing capacity, reaching 3.5 million pigs prosecuted in 2024 and with a forecast of 4.2 sacrifices at the end of 2025.
The resolution issued by the Ministry of Industry and Tourism of the Government of Spain It reinforces the important role of Litera Meat and how it is possible to move towards a more sustainable industry through technology and eco -efficient processes to minimize environmental impact and reduce emissions to the atmosphere.
Pioneer company in industrial decarbonization
Three performances
Three are the actions presented by Litera Meat and that have been approved to benefit from the strategic project for the recovery and economic transformation (belong) promoted by the Government of Spain.
Photovoltaic solar installation for self -consumption
The objective is to reduce the dependence of the electrical network in network by installing an electric power production system from photovoltaic plates intended entirely for self -consumption itself in the various industrial processes. This new photovoltaic installation of self -consumption on ground adds a power of 4.79 MWP and will involve the reduction of 1,124 tons of CO2 per year emitted to the atmosphere.
It should be noted that the company already has a photovoltaic park of self -consumption on deck occupying about 62,000 m² with a power of 7.5 MWP and that has been considered a milestone in photovoltaic technology due Aragon On a single cover.
Installation of a biorefinery for the assessment of waste and by -products generated to obtain green biomethane, CO2, hot water, biofertilizer and compost.
The objective of the project is to reduce the consumption of natural gas by implementing a system for anaerobic digestion of organic waste generated in slaughterhouse such as animal by -products not intended for human consumption of category 2 and category 3 as well as biological muds of the treatment plant itself.
Thanks to this anaerobic digestion system, it will be produced, on the one hand, biogas from which CO2 will be separated, which will be used for animal stun, and biomethane will be obtained that will be used in the boilers; And on the other hand, the digestado, from which hot condensed water will be obtained that will be used for the preheating of steam boilers, also saving natural gas and obtaining biofertilizers and organic compost that will be subsequently used for soil fertilizer. This is intended to generate a new activity as a management company for organic waste generated in the main activity.
This project will reduce the issuance of 1,781 tons of CO2 per year.
Installation of a heat pump for residual heat recovery.
The objective is to reduce the consumption of natural gas from the sanitary hot water system used in the scalding and in the slaughterhouse and exploded lines, by installing a high temperature heat pump that will absorb the residual heat of cold compressors, thus improving energy efficiency by taking advantage of the residual energy.
This action translates into the reduction of 3,669 tons of CO2 issued to the atmosphere.
The sum of these three projects involves the reduction of more than 6,500 tons of CO2 a year issued to the atmosphere and is a clear reflection of its commitment to a business model aligned with a sustainable strategy, integrating sustainability in the various areas of the company and promoting a responsible and efficient organizational culture.
