The Virgen del Pilar is covered with paper bow ties by Hiroshima: this is the emotional tribute

Aug 8, 2025

Saragossa It has become the scene of a symbolic day to advocate for peace. This Wednesday, August 6, as has been done since 2007, the Virgen del Pilar has been covered with an imposing blanket of paper bow ties, made with the Origami technique, as a tribute to Hiroshima. This year the act takes on a special value, I know that 80 years of the launch of the atomic bomb on Japanese city are completed.

In addition to the mantle, the appointment includes an activity whose objective is to bring Origami closer to the Zaragozano public and pay tribute to Hiroshima from creativity and participation. It is an activity, organized by members of the Zaragozano Papiroflexia group, in which they will teach everyone who approaches folding simple figures through this ancestral technique. It will be done next to the emblematic metal bow tie located in the Plaza del Pilar, and will be active until 1:00 p.m.

In Japan, thousands of paper cranes are deposited every August 6 in the Peace Monument of Hiroshima, in memory of Sadako Sasaki, the girl symbol of resistance and hope. In Zaragoza, the gesture is also paper and memory.

Free entrance to the Origami Museum every first Sunday

Coinciding with this informative spirit, the Origami Museum of Zaragoza (Emoz) launches a new initiative: free admission the first Sundays of each month, with initiation workshops to the one -hour papiroflexia (from 12.00 to 13.00 hours) for 6 euros. The places are limited so it is necessary to reserve.

Those who visit the museum these days will also be able to enjoy the exhibition “Origami Bolivia”, and, in the last room where the workshops are taught, a small but emotional collection of objects brought directly from Hiroshima, which connect with the spirit of August 6 and the memory of Sadako.

A bottle of paper to celebrate Amber

As an original brooch, the Zaragozano Papiroflexia group also adds to the 125th anniversary of amber beers with a curious challenge: a contest to guess how many papers composes the bottle model made in Origami. A nice way to provide, also on paper, for one of the most beloved brands in the city.
