Zaragoza will renew the Paseo de los Bananas de la Cartuja Baja: wider and accessible sidewalks

He Zaragoza City Council He has brought to tender the second phase of the remodeling of the Paseo de los Plátanos in La Cartuja Baja, an action that will involve an investment of 114,613 euros (VAT included) and an execution period of two months. The project seeks to expand sidewalks, improve accessibility and renew the pavement, with the aim of offering a more comfortable and safe environment for pedestrians and drivers.

The intervention will focus on the section between Mosén Labordeta and La Pino Street, where the sidewalks have a state of remarkable deterioration and insufficient width, with sections of less than one meter that hinder transit. According to the delegated councilor of Rural Barrios, Paloma Espinosa, the reform will allow considerably expanding the pedestrian space and improving the firm of the road with new asphalt pavement.

In addition, the action contemplates the permanent installation of a platform for the urban bus stop, which will be built following the criteria of the urban mobility service to ensure safer and comfortable access. This completion of the improvements made in 2022 on the road of the walls, where pavements, sidewalks and sections of pipes were renewed, significantly improving the infrastructure of the area.

At the same time, the City Council has ended the installation of a large area of the Park Huerto Frisón de la Cartuja Baja, with an investment of 16,945 euros (VAT included). The new equipment has twelve outdoor exercise elements that allow activities to maintain upper, lower and trunk extremities, thus promoting physical activity and healthy aging.

Espinosa has also advanced that the Department of Rural Neighborhoods plans to undertake a reform in the historical part of the Low Cartuja. The project will cover Calle del Refectio, the Plaza del Claustrillo del Refectory and the alley under the building located to the north, in order to recover the trace of the old cloister and create a complementary social and cultural space to the existing multi -purpose room.

This future intervention will include green areas and new trees in the central space of the cloister, with a design that value the monumental complex and prioritize pedestrian traffic. “We want to build a natural environment that value the historical set, giving prominence to the pedestrian, nature and the cultural environment,” said Espinosa, underlining the municipal commitment to improve the quality of life in rural neighborhoods.
